Pirates and Hair-Eating Satyrs

This satyr wanted to know what my hair tasted like. Guess he enjoys the flavor of hairspray.

Most people like the summertime because they can go to barbecues and the swimming pool. I like the season because I can dress up as outrageously as I want in public. That's exactly what I did this weekend when I went to the Renaissance Festival in Larskspur, Colorado. Never mind the 100 degree heat. It's been several years since I've had a chance to attend one of these fun events, so I went all out.

Here are pics from Saturday.

A blacksmith demonstrating his trade

The satyr could've had real food if he looked at the signs. What do I want first, ice cream or pretzels?

My writing buddy Heather also attended. This was her first Renaissance Festival and she can't wait to go back.

A scary minotaur, but these kiddos don't look frightened :-)

What a coincidence! I ran into the mischievous and roguishly handsome Captain Jack Sparrow. He journeyed inland and climbed the Rocky Mountains just to see me ;-)

Good thing my husband's not the jealous type.

Heather and I walked around the festival and perused the shops until the hot sun forced us to call it a day. We had a great time taking in the comedy shows, too. Didn't get to see the jousting match, but neither one of us wanted to stand in the sun for another hour. Next time, we'll be sure to invest in head gear. See? I do need a pirate hat.

By the time I got home, I was exhausted, but my day at the festival gave me inspiration for a pirate romance story. A romance about hair-eating satyrs? Not so much.

Have you ever been to a Renaissance Festival?
