Danke für die Auszeichnung! (Thanks for the award!)

Don't worry, Penning Praises is still in English. But I do want to send a big thanks to Michelle Griep for nominating my blog for the Liebster Award last week.

Liebster is German for "favorite". The award is given to bloggers with less than 200 followers. The purpose is to bring greater recognition and of course, to show that you enjoy their blog.

The rules for the Liebster award are: 1) List 11 things about yourself, 2) Answer 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you, 3) Pose the questions to the next 11 bloggers to be awarded, and 4) Notify them that they've won.

'K, here goes.

11 Things About Me

My favorite color is pink.
I like to read romance and epic fantasy novels.
I'm into cosplay (that's short for costume play, dressing up as characters from literature, movies, TV, etc.).
My dog is so spoiled by yours truly that he will not go outside when it is drizzling.
Film Noir movies are my absolute favorite viewing experience.
I'm a highly, highly mobile Army wife.
I've lived in 5 different states in four years (hence, the above).
In another life, I worked in the legal field.
Pho, or Vietnamese soup, is my favorite takeout food.
Fan fiction is another weird hobby of mine.
I have a great-aunt who lives in an apartment that once belonged to Frank Sinatra.

11 Questions

1. Why did you start blogging?

I thought it would be a good way to connect with fellow writers and to build a platform. Now that the blogosphere is changing again, I'm learning how and where to take Penning Praises.

2. What is your favorite genre to read?

I can't pick just one. Romance, steampunk, epic fantasy, and hardboiled detective mysteries.

3. What fictional character do you most wish were real?

Sherlock Holmes. Judging by shows like House and Elementary, it seems I'm not alone in my choice.

4. Describe your dream office for writing.

That would be a 1940s-motif room with a sunny window, a mahogany desk and chair, and a French press. A little modern amenity never hurt. Add a fully stocked minifridge with all kinds of brain food and chocolatey indulgences.

5. Name one thing you couldn't live without.

Jesus Christ.

6. If you could only keep one book, what would it be?

Aww, come on! Can I say, Kindle? ;-)

7. If you could magically transport yourself into a book, which one would you choose and what character would you be?

Um, given the fact that most of my favorite books involve heroes fighting mythological creatures, giant automatons (steampunk-speak for robots), or hardcore 1940s gangsters, maybe the real world isn't so bad after all.

8. Do you have any phobias?

Any insect with long legs, wings, and/or the ability to hop or fly.

9. What is your biggest pet peeve?

People who have no dreams or vision.

10. Describe yourself in 5 words.

Retro, creative, quirky, sarcastic, imaginative.

11. Who is your favorite well-known author and your favorite rising star author?

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for the well-known author. Anne Elisabeth Stengl as the rising star.

As for picking 11 bloggers for the award, I really could not decide. I read so many talented and deserving writers' blogs every week that the choice is a tough one to make. So, I leave it up to you. If you blog and meet the requirements for the Liebster, then please, by all means, accept the award. You deserve it!

I love how the Germanic languages are so similar to English. Do you speak another language?
