In Honor of Geek Week

If you're familiar with nerd culture, you may know that people celebrated the last several days as Geek Week. Basically, seven days were dedicated to all things television, sci-fi/fantasy, comics and book-related.

I'm loving how geekdom has gone mainstream. Not that I would stop being myself, anyway, but it's nice to be able to mention George R.R. Martin or throw around the word anime without getting puzzled looks. When I was growing up, if reading graphic novels, wearing thrift store threads, or writing stories were your thing, then you probably weren't the most popular kid in school ;-)

Want to unleash your inner nerd? Try doing one of the following this week. You can do some of the activities with kids, now that warmer weather is afoot.

Read a comic book

See a superhero movie

Head to the thrift store to put together an outfit for your favorite historical character

Watch seasons 1 and 2 of Downton Abbey in one weekend (or Game of Thrones, The Borgias, Sherlock Holmes, etc., etc., etc.)

Finally finish building the world of your YA Fantasy novel

Tell your kids about the original Ninja Turtles

Go to a drop in martial arts class at the gym or YMCA

Rediscover Choose Your Own Adventure Books (I can't be the only one, right?)

Discover Pocky (Think Nutella with shortbread sticks)

Are you a closet nerd, or do you flaunt your geekiness?
